Anyone who lives in Sydney knows of the beautiful Darlinghurst boutique Desordre— run by Shannon Thomas and her good friend Lucinda. Their unique blog (you can visit here) and their quirky Facebook ensures we are never one step behind this dynamic duo and the latest trends to hit the Desordre store. This week we talked to Shannon about her personal style and took a look inside her amazing closet.

Personal Style.

Depends on how I feel that day, usually pretty sleek and simple with influences from living by the beach. I love to be comfortable, but have a downfall for beautiful heels.

Her Problem With Blue.

I bought up big on the colour BLUE last season, and have also ordered more this coming season. I will probably be the Blue lady whenever you see me.

Desordre.

We pride ourselves on being the boutique where you can find special, exclusive pieces. We work on colour ways and styles with designers that are made in small quantities. You can find something to wear to a wedding, the club, the beach or the city… Everything in store we love and would wear, so you aren’t buying something that hasn’t been OK’d by both Lucy and myself. We don’t buy much black because we do like to stand out in the crowd! I particularly love styling unexpected pieces together.

I would describe the ‘Desordre girl’ as confident and comfortable with herself, she is not afraid to wear cutting edge trends.

Style Icons.

Diane Kruger, Kate Moss, Miroslava Dama’s just become a stand out! And although I’m way too tall to be able to wear the top as dress style I love her originality. Christine Centenera makes anything look cool. I also love Elin Kling from Sweden…I find everyday style inspiration from street style blogs such as Jak and Jil and Stockholm Street Style.

Trends For A/W 2012

I’m a huge fan of the blazer and bomber jacket. Always. Jackets are my winter downfall. SHEER Silk, and shirts. Head to toe matching suits I love love love! Big chunky jumpers (LILYA has the most amazing jumper i have ordered in TWO colours. pink and green) PINK. Pastel and bright. Pointy boots. Designer runners (so comfy!) Gee, I guess I like a lot?

Favourite Labels.

My wardrobe seems to consist a lot of— Lilya, Ellery, Dion lee, Kimberly Ovitz, Aje and Josh Goot. Classic pieces yet each of these designers carry really different styles. Also Dean Quinn is going to be my go-to for that ‘special’ outfit. An amazing label we picked up at NYFW in September. AESA is covering all of my jewellery needs— they are Amazing.

Where She Shops.

I find I don’t really need to shop anywhere else! I like looking online for cool vintage pieces though, such as the hand made flares on Novella Royale (I’m looking at scooping up a pair of those soon). Skin care I go to Kiehls. I scope markets for eclectic accessories.

Favourite Pieces.

I always wear a big chunky vintage ring and live in my Ellery and Dion Lee bras. I know it’s standard to always be wearing accessories/underwear, Ha but with me everything else varies day to day. In cooler weather I love wearing my  black skinny jeans.

Most Recent Purchase.

Other than pieces in store, my last indulgent purchase was a pair of Alexander Wang heels in New York and a Comme De Garcon fluoro wallet… I also just got a fluoro Hot Pink Josh Goot sleeveless shirt. I might wear that tonight!

Beauty Advice.

I love natural beauty. I hate too much makeup! Tinted moisturiser, bronzer and a little cream blush. I only wear eye makeup if i’m going out at night. Then I recommend the usual— water, wash face (I use Kiehls) I love eye creams and hand creams. I moisturise my body morning and night and always exfoliate…

What She Can’t Live Without.

MAC MYTH lipstick. I’m lost when I run out, I end up using concealer on my lips instead. And my iphone. I don’t know how I used to work without it? I can blog, take photos (how great is instagram?!) answer emails, instantly send photos to overseas customers… music. Seriously it changed my life. If only the battery lasted longer!

This week Lilya met with good Friend Kristy Sikiotis, Director and Designer of Bali based LabelMaidenLove to discuss style, inspiration and take a quick peek inside her amazing wardrobe.

Personal Style.

My style is incredibly relaxed with a hint of country and a touch of vintage. My husband is calling me Dolly [Parton] at the moment as I have this new shaggy haircut that kind of looks like a wig… It can look pretty big and Ms Parton like!

MaidenLove.

Maidenlove was born on the tropical island of Bali in 2010 and started out as a swimwear brand. This coming summer we have expanded into all facets of womens fashion, swim, apparel, accessories, and jewellery. The label has a lot of vintage references both in the styling and the materials used. A part of the collection uses vintage fabric remnants reworked into more current and modern designs, which is our way of taking an eco friendlier approach in what can be such a disposable industry.

Style Icons.

Charlotte Gainsbourg, Chloe Sevigny & Sofia Coppola. I think it is important to follow your instincts with dressing, to wear what you love and what you feel comfortable in. These ladies always seem to own their look.

Trends this Autumn/Winter season.

1940 silhouettes, collared dresses and big floral wallpaper placement prints.

Label Love.

International Labels I love— Marc by Marc Jacobs, Dries Van Noten, Acne, Helmut Lang.

Australian Labels— I heart Arabella Ramsay, Lilya, and Lucy Folk Jewellery (especially those taco friendship bands… can’t get enough!)

Favourite Shopping Spots.

In Melbourne, I love all the vintage stores up the Windsor end of Chapel Street. I always scour second hand markets, wherever I am in the world, for great one off pieces. I love visiting Opening Ceremony, American Rag and Marc by Marc Jacobs when I’m in the US and Topshop and Matches when in the UK.

Style Uniform.

In Melbourne I’m always in jeans and boots. In Bali its bikinis, little dresses and a pair of my vintage fabric wedges!

Most Recent Purchase.

A new pair of Marc by Marc Jacobs spectacles and a pair of fluro orange Nikes just in time for that new years health regime to kick in, any day now…ha!

Beauty Advice.

Lately I have been loving a different perfume for everyday and some crazy colourful eye make up to shake things up a little.

What She Can’t Live Without.

My YSL Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils in Noir Radical. Non fashion, although I wouldn’t say he is non fashion, would have to be my husband— Corny but true!

LILYA – “Elemental” – Autumn/Winter 2012 from LILYA on Vimeo.

“Take a walk, feel the roughness of the rocks beneath your bare feet, feel the winter sun on your back and the cool air toss your hair. Stop your mind from thinking about anything but the path you walk, and the quiet of your surroundings. In true Lilya style Elemental is about back to basics- nature, raw elements and cool change. That the greatest beauty, in all its meanings, is that which is not changed or transformed and remains relaxed in its natural state.”

This week we give you a sneak peek behind the upcoming Lilya Autumn/Winter 2012 Collection-Elemental.

Inspired by the natural world and all its beauty, Director and Designer Lisa Chedanne, describes how the wood, rocks and earthy grounds of the lush forest backdrop captured here in these images, inspired this season’s burnt cinnamon, pebble grey and olive peppered colour palette.

Elemental celebrates soft layers and textures, trans-seasonal knits, flowly maxi skirts, open weave crochets, as well as the return of signature basics, embellished with tucks, ruffles and lace trims never loosing the wearable, relaxed feeling Lisa herself swears by.

Elemental hits stores February 2012.

“Wherever you are, whatever season, whatever mood or job you find yourself in there is beauty to be found on the streets. Often my wardrobe inspiration comes from the girls I spot hitting the pavement in my local area of Sydney and from the pictures others have taken of the girls walking the streets in their own neighbourhoods – so thanks anonymous girls for the inspiration and the ideas.”

Happy New Year Everyone!
